Biotechnology is the part of the market where conventional fundamental analysis has the least to say. A clinical-stage company has no product, no revenue and no margin to measure; what it has is a cash balance, a burn rate, and a set of trials whose outcomes are genuinely unknown until they report.
The three numbers that matter are therefore cash on hand, quarterly cash used, and the resulting runway in months set against the date of the next readout. A company that will run out of money before its catalyst arrives has to raise capital from a position of weakness, and existing holders are diluted regardless of whether the science works. Commercial-stage biotech, by contrast, can be read like any other business.
